FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):

How do you make a CD-Rom?

A tape or recordable CD will contain the data. That data is read to a powerful modulated laser beam. The beam carves or engraves corresponding pits into a photo-resistant surface. The end result is a CD-Rom.

What is the difference between CD-R's and CD-ROM's?
CD-R is a low to high volume recordable-write once CD. These are suitable for any project that requires small quantities (350 or less) with a short deadline. It is often used for beta releases, multimedia demonstrations, and training programs that are computer related. Black, screen printed or laser-printed labels are available.

CD-ROM is a large volume compact disc read-only memory optical data disc. This is a good choice when you need large quantities (350+) and also have extended turnaround time. Four-color process or spot color printing that uses a high-quality silk screening are available.

What formats can be transferred to CD-R's and CD-ROM's?

PC (ISO 9660), MAC (HSF), UNIX (Rock Ridge Extension), and Hybrids Multimedia. Other formats may be acceptable. For more info. contact DISC and we will be pleased to help you.

What input sources are acceptable for CD-R and CD-ROM replication?      CD-R is preferred. CD-ROM diskettes, Iomega Zip Disks, Jaz Disks, email attachment, or FTP are also accepted. Other sources may be acceptable. For more info. contact DISC and we will be pleased to help you.

Will the glass master, original data source, and film be returned to me?
The glass master is not returnable, instead it is recycled. Your original data source and film is returned to you upon your request and/or if the product is obsolete.

Why does turnaround time change during the year for CD-ROM replication?
Mid-August through mid-January is our busiest time of the year. There is usually a three to four day increase in turnaround times.

What is the difference between LaserJet Labels, Silkscreen Printing and Thermal Printing?

LaserJet Labels are used on CD-Rs if you desire full color with sharp graphics.
Silkscreen Printing allows the use of one to six hues with a maximum 110 lines per inch.
      Thermal Printing
is for CD-R's and only availbable in blacks because of their ability to print on "non-printable"

How much data does a CD-R/CD-ROM hold?
650 Mbytes of user data or 74 minutes of audio, or a combination of both (a.k.a. "enhanced CD").

How long will a CD-R last? Indefinitely with proper treatment.

What are the packaging options for CD-R's and CD-ROM's?
Jewel boxes with one to two CD capacity, paper sleeve and vinyl sleeve and more. For more info. contact DISC and we will be pleased to help you.

How does the art for CD-R's and CD-ROM's need to be submitted?
Look at our Specs to see our requirements.
