Hello,
I hope you are excited for school to start. I sure am. My name is Mrs. Redd. I am so excited to be your Teacher this year. I am looking forward to a fantastic year together. By the end of the year you will be able to spell and read words like “fantastic”!
To help you feel more comfortable; I want you and your parents to know a little bit about me. This is my fifteenth year of teaching in Orem. Before I moved to Orem I lived in Blanding, Utah where I was an assistant coordinator in a preschool. My parents still live in Blanding. At different times, my Dad (Jim Slavens) and my Grandpa (LaRay Alexander) were the mayors in Blanding. My parents own the theatre and run the youth detention center there. I have four brothers and two sisters. preschool. My parents still live in Blanding. At different times, my Dad (Jim Slavens) and my Grandpa (LaRay Alexander) were the mayors in Blanding. My husband teaches institute and family science classes at BYU, UVSC and Seminary at Timpanogos High School. He just finished his doctorate degree. I also have seven children, four daughters and three sons. They love to sing and dance. They have recorded a cassette single and two CD’s. They are called Redd Alert. We use to go around to different schools doing substance abuse and self-esteem assemblies.
My oldest son Jeremy played two years of football at Ricks. He just moved from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania where he had a full ride scholarship to play football. He is now married to BYU. He married a girl named Sarah, which is confusing for my daughter also named Sarah. My oldest daughter, Tavah has just moved here from Irving, Texas. She is a beautician and her husband Brandon is a chiropractor in Highland. They have a one year old, which is my first grandchild named Brandon Jr. She is expecting another in January 2004. You can just call me Granny Grunt! Sarah is on a mission in Uruaguay. Before her mission she was a dental assistant. She hopes to be a dental hygienist some day. She is an awesome volleyball player. Joshua is also on a mission in Honduras. He has a academic and football scholarship at Southern Utah University when he returns. He wants to be a dentist, that is why he has chosen Dixie to play football. Their program is one of the top in the nation. Tiah is our genius. She is very smart and loves school. She also plays volleyball and baseball for Timpanogos High School. She is the best seamstress I know! She is our only child that has the rule, no studying on Friday nights, you have to go out and do something with friends. She loves to read encyclopedias! She forgets to play, so we have to remind her and make rules for her to take breaks and just have fun sometimes. Jordan is in the 5th grade and Jenikah is in 1st grade. She is so tiny, she looks like she is only three!!
I Iove all sports, especially volleyball. I love football too! I also like to sew, decorate cakes, read, sing and dance. Most of all, I love being a teacher. I also am a service missionary at the MTC. I work in the sewing department. I make sister missionary clothing modest. It is sooooooooooo fun to be working with these beautiful young ladies. I am their mom away from home! I love it.
Now that you know something about me I want to know about you. The first day of class, will you bring me a picture that you have colored with some of your favorite things that I can hang in my classroom? Bring a bag full of any items in it that introduces you to our class. The items can represent a hobby, talent, a personality trait or anything else that you want to share with our class. Be creative. I look forward to getting to know you.
See you on Tuesday, September 2nd. Be ready to learn a lot and have fun. We will have a great year together.
I need to have your first months tuition and all of your forms as well that first day of class! Don’t forget, I need your forms as well!
Sincerely,
Beverly Redd
